The world is facing a contagion of pandemic proportions at this time, and both Epiclesis Consulting and Epiclesis Press are part of that world, with a responsibility to take actions consistent with the common good. As an immunocompromised person myself, I am especially conscious of the importance of closing off as many ready avenues of transmission of the COVID-19 virus as possible.

Although I use the pronoun “we” when speaking on behalf of Epiclesis Consulting and Epiclesis Press as business entities, both are currently one-person operations. As that “one person,” I take seriously my obligation to respond to the current coronavirus crisis in a prudent, responsible manner. “Business as usual” is not sufficient.

I have decided that effective immediately, Epiclesis Consulting and Epiclesis Press will take the following precautions:

  • No exchange of paper communication:  The National Institute of Health has determined that COVID-19 can survive on surfaces, including paper, for hours to days. Therefore, all materials exchanged between us and customers will be transmitted electronically. No paper manuscripts will be accepted, nor will paper critiques be mailed until further notice. Payments must be processed electronically; no paper checks will be accepted at this time.
  • No in-person retreat presentations:  Until further notice, I am not available for in-person retreats or parish missions. However, I can arrange to give retreats via distance communication such as by the use of video streaming. Contact us if you would like to set up a streamed retreat.
  • No physical contact between retreatants:  For streamed retreats, there will be no in-person gathering of large groups, nor of small groups that include elderly or immunocompromised persons. No activities which involve direct or indirect physical contact (such as shaking hands, holding hands, or passing objects from person to person) will be included in retreat activities.
  • No face-to-face business meetings:  Also until further notice, I am not available for meetings conducted face-to-face for business purposes. Other means of communication will be used as necessary.

These precautions are for my protection, for the protection of my clients and customers, and for the protection of society at large as we all seek to slow down the spread of this disease, which can be deadly to the most vulnerable among us. It will remain the policy of Epiclesis Consulting LLC and Epiclesis Press to follow evidence-based precautions for as long as necessary for this pandemic to pass.

I thank you for your support, and urge you to take all precautions which you determine to be prudent in your own circumstances to protect yourself and those you love.
